PENTLAND TWP. -- Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, and the seatbelt was worn in an unfortunate fatal vehicle crash over the weekend.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on M-117, south of County Road 458 in Pentland Township.

The investigation revealed that a 1996 Chevy pickup truck traveling northbound on M-117 lost control on the icy, snow-covered roadway, ran off the right side of the road, and eventually struck a large tree in the ditch.

The driver and lone occupant, 38-year-old Teresa Weaver Beech from Alabama, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
