They hope to collect 2000 cans
HARVEY -- Students at the Cherry Creek Elementary school did their part to feed their hungry neighbor Thursday.
A special kick-off assembly was held Thursday morning to encourage kids to bring in non-perishable food items for the TV6 Canathon.
Students participated in skits, and the teachers put on special can hats to sing a Canathon song to the students. It was also a chance for the students to learn the importance of helping those in need and set goals for this year's collection efforts. They hope to beat last year's collection, which was 2000 cans.
"Because if we don't, the people in Marquette might starve," said fourth grader Mikaila Graham.
Fourth grader Roni Wiese was optimistic for this year's drive. "I hope we will and I think we will because last year we got over 2000."
The TV6 Canathon wraps up on December 2 with an hour-long drop-off show.
