MARQUETTE -- A traveling art exhibit in Marquette County is increasing awareness about the association between childhood abuse and neglect with teen substance abuse and dependency.

The traveling exhibit is called Hidden Voices:  Childhood Trauma.  The exhibit, sponsored in part by a grant from the Child Abuse and Neglect Council, is being featured at the Marquette Alternative High School on the second floor of the Graveraet building for the next week.

All of the artwork and interpretations were done by clients of the Great Lakes Recovery Youth program.

"You just don't get over trauma, you have to work through them, but there also has to be somebody providing you with an opportunity to do that and recognizing substance use, abuse, and dependency as an underlying cause, not the problem," said Diane Raven, Director of Art Therapy at GLRC.

The exhibit will be going to several Marquette County area high schools in the coming weeks.
