MARQUETTE -- Traffic was backed up on Third Street just after 11 a.m. Thursday when two cars collided right outside the Beacon House.

Police say a 20-year-old NMU student was traveling southbound on Third Street in her grey Mitsubishi when she became distracted by her cell phone and rear-ended a blue Dodge pickup.

Since she was unable to stop her vehicle before colliding with another, the student was cited for violating the basic speed law.

Nobody was injured, but the student's Mitsubishi was totaled.

Marquette City Police remind everyone to stay off their cell phones while driving.
