MARQUETTE -- A Northern Michigan University organization is doing it's part for the community and encouraging hockey fans to help.

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is sponsoring a Canathon at the NMU versus Bowling Green State hockey games on Friday and Saturday.

They'll have collection boxes at each of the ticket entrances in the Berry Events Center for fans to donate canned goods and non-perishable items.

Organizers say this is a great chance for the committee to do it's part for the community.

"Well, for us the incentive is that we're helping out the community and the local food banks," said Kim Falkenhagen, S.A.A.C. Advisor.   "We're just trying to get involved with the Canathon drive with TV6 and for us that's the incentive, just helping out."

The hockey games start at 7:30 p.m. and the collection boxes will be out from 6:30 p.m. to the second period of each game.
