VULCAN -- The Republican wave that swept across the national scene also found its way to state races in the Upper Peninsula.

In the 108th District, incumbent Democrat Judy Nerat was defeated by political newcomer Ed McBroom.

McBroom is a farmer in Vulcan who, like many other victorious Republicans, disagreed with the direction of Lansing.

He says now both parties must work together to fix the state's economy and out of control spending.

"It's a huge honor and very humbling to have all of these people to trust me with this job; is a tremendous responsibility.  It's very sobering to me to think about doing it, and I'm honored that they would trust me with it," said McBroom.

McBroom also said he was surprised by his margin of victory.
