MARINETTE -- The Navy is asking Congress to approve two new contracts, and that could mean 1,000 additional jobs at Marinette Marine.

The Navy wants approval to award two contracts, including one to build 10 warships at Marinette.

Marinette Marine's president says the deal for 10 ships would double the number of workers to about 2,000.

That could mean thousands more jobs would be generated by vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
