IRON MOUNTAIN -- Dan Benishek declared victory just before 9 p.m. central time. His opponent, Democrat Gary McDowell, called and conceded the race to Benishek just before the announcement.
Supporters gathered at Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain to celebrate the victory.
Tuesday night Benishek said he wanted to ride the Republican wave all the way to Washington, and after his victory, he says that's exactly what the people want as well.
"My message really rings through to the people, too. Read the bills, reduce the size of government, reduce its intrusion into our lives. Repeal Obama care and bring our country back to the constitution. This is why we're here. This is why people voted for me because that's what they want, and I'm here to deliver," said 1st District Representative Elect, Dan Benishek.
Benishek's victory is just one of many nationwide for Republicans.
