HOUGHTON -- Whether you believe in climate change or not, the U.S. Forest Service is taking precautions.
Climate Change Advisor Cathy Dowd spent Tuesday afternoon explaining the plan for adapting to those changes to Michigan Tech students and staff.
Dowd said the increasing length of the wildfire season and amount of damage caused is just one example of how climate change is affecting areas like the U.P.
"The forest service has always been, as Cathy mentioned, kind of on the ground and doing proactive things with forest management for a long time before climate change became a political issue. I've always thought that's pretty interesting," said event organizer, Kristen Schmitt.
Both immediate action and long-term planning will be a part of their response to climate change.
