MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Whether it's a tropical trip or home for the holidays, travel agents at Holiday Travel Vacations are busy planning vacations for the end of the year.

"People, if they haven't booked yet, they should book really, really soon because flights are getting very booked, resorts are getting very booked.  It's a busy time to travel," says owner Laura Nelson.

When booking your trip, agents suggest flexibility with your travel dates because you'll get better prices.

Increased travel throughout the holiday season means longer lines and sometimes more detailed security measures.

And one of the biggest things you can do to speed up the security checkpoint process is follow the 3-1-1 rule:  if you're carrying on liquids, they must be 3.4 liquid ounces or less in one quart-sized bag per passenger.

"As you're preparing for your trip, please keep in mind to pack again, pack light, and pack smart before you get to the airport, and again, if you can ship your goods to your final destination before you leave, that's recommended as well," says Sawyer Airport Manager Keith Kaspari.

Other tips for getting through security hassle-free?  The Transportation Security Administration advises you to arrive on time, wear slip-on shoes, don't wear any items that could set off the metal detector, remove animals from carrying cases, and take infants and children out of carriers and strollers.

Also effective November 1, TSA requires your full name, birth date, and gender on any and all travel documents.

"Think about what you're traveling with and make sure you have all of your applicable IDs before you actually get to the airport," Kaspari advises.
