MARQUETTE -- It's an award open to men and women of Marquette County who are inspirational in their roles as mentors of women and girls.
Monday the Evergreen Award of Marquette County was presented at the annual luncheon.
Recipients are determined by a selection committee, after being nominated by peers.
This year's recipient, Patricia Micklow, is now retired, but spent her professional career as an advocate for the rights of victims, particularly in the area of domestic violence.
"The ideals of Evergreen remain relevant today, even though maybe in this society it's not as prevalent as it once was in terms of equality between men and women. However, to be able to have strong leadership skills as a woman remains important," said Pam Stewart, Chair of the Award Committee.
The Evergreen award is a regional award, and is organized by the Zonta Club of the Marquette area.
