Marquette man compiles Bishop Baraga documentary
MARQUETTE -- When the 1969 Bishop Baraga High School Basketball team finished with an 8-10 season, no one expected they would take the State Championship Title.
One Marquette resident is hoping to preserve those memories for current and future generations.
Rich Rossway was a freshman when the school claimed the title.
Now he's working putting together a 30-minute documentary to showcase memories he says he still can barely believe.
"Going through this was almost surreal," says Rich Rossway, Bishop Baraga HS Alum. "Is it possible? Can this little town in the middle of nowhere play with the big boys? You know the final game was a team from Detroit, the Detroit Martins - top ranked team, etc, etc."
He's asking for help from the community to gather memorabilia for the project.
Rossway is also hoping to put together a permanent public display case to house the once misplaced championship trophy.
1969 was also the school's final season, as it closed the following year.
Those who have memorabilia they would like to include can contact Rossway at 906-360-6570.
