MARQUETTE -- Brookridge Heights Assisted Living held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for their new Memory Care Community on Thursday.

The community is designed specifically for those with Alzheimer's and related dementia, and provides them with a safe environment that optimizes independence.

The Michigan Alzheimer's Association estimates that there are over 8,000 residents in the U.P. that have Alzheimer's and dementia and organizers say this facility is a good start in meeting their needs.

"It's really a much needed resource to ensure that people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementia's have an opportunity to have the highest quality of life," said Administrator Pam Parkkila.

There is now a waiting list available for the 25 rooms, if you would like more information, you can call the Memory Care Community at (906) 225 4488.
