MARQUETTE -- The holidays and the flu season are approaching and most people don't think about donating blood, but the need never goes away. This need is why the Upper Peninsula Regional Blood Center is holding its 36th annual Halloween Blood Drive this week.
The center is giving away prizes such as oil changes and gas cards, and every donor receives a coupon for a free six-inch sub from Subway.
The only requirements to donate are a picture ID, a weight over 110 pounds, and you must pass a short physical.
The donation process is quick, and there are more benefits than donors may realize, say organizers.
"It's a very simple process--when you give one pint of blood, you can save up to three lives. Your blood not only goes to one person, it goes to three different people. We separate your blood into plasma, platelets, and red cells," said Sallie Coron of the U.P. Regional Blood Center.
The center is currently in need of 'O' positive and negative along with 'A' positive and negative blood types.
