Studded tires still need to be approved by MDOT

MICHIGAN -- The Michigan Department of Transportation wants to clear the air about laws pertaining to studded tires.

They say there have been no changes to studded tire use regulations on Michigan roadways.

While the state allows studs under certain circumstances, no tire manufacturers have supplied information to MDOT that their product meets or exceeds required pavement wear specifications.

Studded tires that do not meet MDOT standards could damage state roads and bridges.
