More than 200 people attended
MARQUETTE -- The struggling economy has taken a toll on almost everyone. But for non-profits in the area, it has hit much harder.
More than 100 non-profit organizations from all across the U.P came together today for the 6th annual non-profit conference. Attendees participated in workshops and heard speakers on a variety of topics including board development, marketing, and health care reform. This year's theme was Powerful Missions, Profound Results...and was chosen based on the economy.
"What we wanted to focus on was even though some of our economic indicators are starting to improve and things like that, it's still tough. Funding sources are shifting or gone, and many places had to close their doors," explains Great Lakes Center for Youth Development Director of Marketing, Ann Gonyea.
The conference also recognized people in the U.P. community who have done so much, even if they only received a smile.
"I just kept thinking but there's so-and-so that should get this; there's so many people who help out in so many ways that I really thought it was nice," said Diana Anderson regarding the award she received.
Six awards were given out in total at the event.
