MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP -- Roads in the northern portion of Michigamme Township will now be watched by police enforcement.
M-3 Construction, Michigamme Township, and the Marquette County Sheriff's office worked together on the deal.
A Sheriff's Deputy and vehicle will be contracted full time to Michigamme Township for about $135,000. The deputy will be answering complaints and doing general patrol.
"It was a fairly simple process from the standpoint that M-3 is covering the costs of the thing, so it's a win-win situation for the Township of Michigamme," said Township Supervisor, John Olson.
"Our concern isn't the mine itself, it's obviously the roads and the safety of the public now that there is increased traffic on those rural roads," added Marquette County Sheriff's Captain David Lemire.
The deputy will split the time between patroling target areas like County Road AAA and the village area.
