King of Sweden rewards Granholm

LANSING (AP) -- The king of Sweden will award Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm one of his country's highest awards.

King Carl XVI Gustaf on Thursday will present Granholm with Sweden's Insignia of First Commander, Order of the Polar Star.  It's for her work fostering relations between Michigan and Sweden to promote clean energy.

The ceremony is at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.  The Order of the Polar Star was created in 1798.  It's awarded to foreigners and members of the Swedish royal family for services to Sweden.

The king visited Michigan in 2008 for the groundbreaking at Flint's Center of Energy Excellence and a climate change conference in Dearborn.

Granholm is in Sweden for a trade trip that also has taken her to France.
