ISHPEMING -- The Marquette County Health Department is reminding everyone of the importance of flu vaccinations for those older than six months of age.
Tuesday morning, the Marquette County Health Department held a flu clinic at the Ishpeming Senior Center where health officials estimate anywhere from 100 to 200 people received their flu shot.
This year, the seasonal influenza vaccine contains the 2009 H1N1 influenza antigens so it does induce an immunity or antibody response to the 2009 H1N1.
"It's really important this time of year to get the flu shot because it takes a good, you know, 10 days to two weeks for the immunity to really be there for the flu shot to work, so it's important to get it now before the flu hits to make sure you're protected so you don't get sick with the flu this season," said Laura Fredrickson of the Marquette County Health Department.
If you missed Tuesday's flu clinic, the Marquette County Health Department will be holding another one at the Marquette Senior Center on Friday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
