Right-of-way change
MARQUETTE -- Those driving in Marquette may have noticed a change at the Seventh and Fisher Street intersection.
Now that the Seventh Street extension is complete, the city has changed the right-of-way at the intersection. Motorists traveling south on Seventh now have the right-of-way, and traffic on Fisher has a stop sign.
This was done because of the heavier traffic on Seventh to and from Marquette General Hospital and NMU. Though city police say there has not been a significant increase in accidents at the intersection, there have been concerns.
"I think it's just a matter of people getting used to the new design of the intersection," said Marquette Police Officer Chris Aldrich. "They've been so used to how it had been for years and years that it will take a little time for people to get used to the new design as far as who has the right-of-way."
One of the concerns raised has been the sight distance on Fisher. The police say the city engineers are currently looking into the issue.
