NEGAUNEE -- Millions of kids across the world might have slowed traffic today to get a simple message out that it's time to get active.
And in Negaunee after Wednesday's "Walk to School" celebration, a few kids could be making their way to school in style.
As part of a "Safe Routes to School Grant," Lakeview Elementary was able to raffle off six bicycles, helmets, and locks to a lucky student from each grade.
The big giveaway followed a school-wide five block walk to school, something administrators say was tricky to plan, but well worth it.
"The logistics for nearly 700 students can be a bit challenging, but we work together with our bus drivers to drop our students at a safe spot, and then we stationed people throughout the entire route to school. That way we'd ensure students would be safe," said Lakeview Elementary Principal, Julie Peterson.
It's the 13th year "Walk to School Day" has been held internationally. Just in the U.S., 3200 schools were celebrating this year.
