SANDS TOWNSHIP -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resource and Environment's Forestry Division held an open house to show residents their 2012 plans for their Gwinn forest harvest.
The forestry department evaluates and inventories 10 percent of the forest every year to determine the health, quality, and quantity of the forests, along with any social factors such as a proximity to roads or private land.
Foresters and biologists were on hand at the Sands Township hall to answer any questions residents may have.
"It provides the public at least an opportunity to see what we're doing, to learn about what we're doing and comment on it, if they have concerns or one way or another," said Gwinn Forest Unit Manager, Jim Ferris.
A formal review to decide what plans should be implemented will be held on October 21 at the Peter White Public Library community room in Marquette.
