MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- The winter months are quickly approaching, and for many this year, that could mean getting the flu.
The Marquette County Health Department held a drive-thru flu clinic Wednesday at the Marq-Tran bus garage. The drive-thru provides a quick and convenient way for residents to get their shots, along with making it easier for those with mobility issues.
With reports of flu cases already starting to surface, organizers say it could be a bad flu season.
"The nice thing about the flu vaccine this year is the H1N1, which is the predominant virus that's expected to be around this winter, is in this shot, so there's a couple other strains that are in the vaccine this year, so we're hopeful that the shot will give people the protection they need so they don't come down with the flu this winter," said Community Health Director George Sedlacek.
This is the first clinic of the season for the health department. The next drive-thru clinic is in Forsyth Township at the end of the month.
Delta County has a drive-thru flu clinic Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ruth Butler Building on the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.
