There will be a meeeting October 11
ESCANABA -- Some major changes could be coming for 12,000 acres of state forest land in Delta and Menominee Counties in the next two years.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment hosted an open house to get public comment on proposed forest management treatments in the Escanaba forest management unit.
There are 10 proposed areas or compartments. Plans for those areas include timber harvesting, wildlife preservation, disease control, as well as tree planting.
"Every year we take a look at ten percent of state forest land and make prescriptions for what we want to do on the land. But this is the people's state forests, people of Michigan, and we want to make sure we take into account their comments before we finalize our prescriptions," said MDNRE Wildlife Biologist, Craig Albright.
The DNRE expects to finalize the plans at a meeting on October 11 at the Pocket Park in Escanaba.
The meeting will be open to the public.
