Road closures caused
The heavy rains that were experienced in Chippewa County during the past 24 hours have concluded. Rain amounts of three to as much as five inches have been reported in eastern Upper Michigan including Chippewa County.
Many bridges and low areas are flooded. Chippewa County Road Commission staff have been inspecting roads, bridges, and culverts to ensure safe traveling. Road closures are being marked and barricaded. The following roads are closed:
-13 Mile Road between Riverside and Scenic
-18 Mile Road bridge is out and repairs are being made at this time
-Aho Road at Kallio Road
-South Chub Creek Road
-West Saaranen Road at S. Chub Creek Road
Much of the flooding is occurring in the Little Munoscong River, Charlotte River, and Pine River basins. Hydrology staff with the National Weather Service advises that water levels will increase in the next three to five hours before subsiding.
Chippewa County Road Commission staff continues addressing erosion and flooding issues affecting roads.
Motorists are cautioned not to drive through flowing water. As little as six inches of water may cause the loss of control of a vehicle. Two feet of water will carry a vehicle away.
