Victim was a 13-year-old girl
ESCANABA -- After 3 hours of deliberations, a 12-member jury has convicted an Escanaba man of criminal sexual conduct with a girl under the age of 13.
Tuesday afternoon, 41-year-old Corey Walker was found guilty of second degree, criminal sexual conduct. Walker was charged with the crime after he inappropriately touched the girl last December.
Walker could face up to 15 years in prison.
"I think it was an appropriate verdict. I feel justice was served, particularly because of the nature of the offense and nature of the victim and the witnesses that were affected by it, they being young children," said Delta County Prosecutor, Jim Soderberg.
The defense declined to comment on the verdict. However, during the trial they claimed there were discrepancies in witness testimony.
Walker will be sentenced sometime within the next six weeks.
Editor's note: Corey Walker, who was found guilty of CSC, should not be confused with 39 year-old Cory Lee Walker of Escanaba. Cory Lee Walker is an Army veteran, a family man, and a longtime employee at Hilltop RV Superstore. TV6 and uppermichiganssource.com regret any confusion that might have resulted from the similarity between the two names.
