The North Country Trail Hikers Club maintain a 120-mile portion of the trail.
ISHPEMING -- As the leaves begin to change, it's a great time to get outside and enjoy the signs of fall.
Members of the North Country Trail Hikers Club did just that Sunday at their end of season picnic in Ishpeming.
The group was able to hike the trails around Al Quaal, or kayak to celebrate the hard work they've done over the summer.
The hikers maintain a 120-mile portion of the North Country Trail from Alger County to Baraga County twice a week.
Since the trail is one of the longest in the nation, they say it's important to keep it nice for others.
"We're starting to get more through hikers and if they cannot get through then it gives the national scenic trail a bad name so proper maintenance and keeping it up for hikers will encourage more hikers to come and those who do come to enjoy it better," says club president Loraina Jinkerson.
The North Country Trail begins in New York and runs all the way through North Dakota.
