MENOMINEE COUNTY -- Menominee County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a domestic in progress on M-35 in Ingallston Township.  Menominee Police, Michigan State Police, and the Sheriff's Victim Services Unit assisted during the stand-off.

Three family members were able to flee from the house.  The defendant, 50-year-old John Irvin Gillis Jr. barricaded himself in the residence with firearms.  He communicated with deputies through open windows.  Detective and Deputies negotiated with the defendant for two hours.  The defendant refused to surrender to law enforcement.

The defendant was incapacitated with taser weapons through open windows.  A tactical entry was made, and Gillis Jr. was taken into custody without injury.

The Menominee County Undersheriff was injured during the entry.  He was treated and released from Bay Area Medical Center.

The 50-year-old defendant was arraigned at 3 p.m. for Felony Resisting and Obstructing with three counts of domestic violence.  He is being held at the Menominee County Jail on a $3,000 cash bond.
