MANISTIQUE -- A Schoolcraft County business reached a milestone Wednesday.

The Schoolcraft County Pubic Transit System is celebrating 30 years of service.

What started with only a few buses 30 years ago is now a 9 bus operation that provides over 35,000 rides a year.  The transit also has a new facility, which was completed this year.

They employ twelve people, and they hope they'll be around for another 30 years.

"The elderly really rely on us.  We do a lot of transporting school kids, to school and back from school, and it's well needed in the community.  Our community deserves this.  There's no taxi service, there is not other transportation service for those people," said transit system director, John Stapleton.

The transit operates Monday through Friday, however, they are looking into extending their hours.  Stapleton says it just all depends on funding.
