Law enforcement runs 750 miles for Special Olympics
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- It's day two of a 750-mile relay for some Michigan law enforcement officers.
A team passed Negaunee Township this morning--a distance of about 140 miles--a two-and-half hour driving trip from the start. They rotate 5-mile running shifts 24 hours a day.
The relay will finish Friday evening in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
They're running to raise awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics.
Sterling Heights P.D. Officer Dave Allen says his team has been running together for several years. Each year they try to raise $15-20,000 for the cause.
"How does it feel? Our bodies are a little bit sore at the end of the week," says Allen. "It's pretty inspiring. No matter how sore you are, when people do honk and show their support for us, it kind of keeps the legs moving."
