An Illinois pipeline leak may be to blame.
ISHPEMING -- Don't look now, but gas prices in Michigan are soaring this week.
According to the American Automobile Association of Michigan, the current statewide average is $2.90 a gallon for unleaded. Here, in the U.P., it's even higher.
A quick survey of stations in Marquette County Monday showed prices nearing three dollars a gallon, about 20 cents more than they were just a few days ago.
"How can people afford to live when they're sticking money in their gas tanks?" asks motorist John Perry in Ishpeming.
Why the sudden increase in prices?
It's apparently the result of a pipeline shutdown after a leak at the Enbridge Pipeline in Romeoville, Illinois, on September 9.
