Sheriff doesn't think cartel involved
FLORENCE COUNTY -- For the second time in less than a month, a major marijuana bust has been made in Northern Wisconsin.
Acting on an anonymous tip, the Florence County Sheriff's Department discovered 112 fully grown marijuana plants on public land. The marijuana was grown in a newly logged portion of Homestead Township on North County Highway C.
The street value of the marijuana plants is around $90,000.
While this is an important bust for the department, Florence County Sheriff Jeff Rickaby doesn't believe the operation is part of a cartel.
"The operation looks like it had been going on for most of the year, from the spring on. The plants were scattered throughout the recently logged over area to the point that they weren't very visible from the air or other places," said Rickaby.
The sheriff's department is looking for two suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department at 1-800-235-9897.
