Despite poor attendance, fair revenue is good
NORWAY -- Like Labor Day, the 100th Annual Dickinson County Fair has come and gone, and officials got some surprising numbers from the event.
Attendance was down between 10 and 15 thousand people from last year's fair, which organizers blame on the unseasonably cold weather.
But what caught everyone's eye is the revenue which, despite the drop in attendance, remained largely unchanged.
"Numbers were down a little bit on certain activities, but overall I would say this is probably an above average fair for us. (The) surprise is our revenue is coming in real close to what we were in the years in the past," said Fair Board Chairman, John Degenaer.
He says the Dollar Day on Monday in honor of the fair's centennial was a big success.
