Tom Casperson not in Labor Day Parade
ISHPEMING -- A political candidate was not allowed to participate in the Labor Day Rally and parade in Ishpeming Monday, and Tuesday is saying that it's because he was not informed of the proper policy.
Tom Casperson, Republican candidate for the 38th Senate District, says he was not endorsed by the labor unions hosting the event, and because of a long-standing organization policy, was not allowed to take part in the parade.
"It wasn't a matter of disrespect or anything like that, it was just a matter of a procedure," said Casperson. "We would have only hoped that when we were calling last week to what the procedure was that somebody would have gotten back to us. We felt like there was some reason we were being avoided, and that was our concern."
Event organizers did not want to comment on camera, but did tell TV6 over the phone that the endorsement policy has been in place for many years that only candidates endorsed by the labor rally can participate in the parade.
