ST. IGNACE -- Thousands spent their morning walking or running across the Mackinac Bridge Monday, including Governor Jennifer Granholm.
The governor was one of nearly 300 runners who lead the way for thousands of walkers during Monday's annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk and Run.
This is Granholm's eighth time she has taken part in the event as governor, a tradition she hopes will continue with the state's next governor.
"I've done this now eight times, and it is one of the greatest privileges of being governor is being able to come across this bridge," says Granholm. "I hope that whoever the next governor is, they continue the tradition of not just walking, including running, but encouraging people to experience the magic of the Mackinac Bridge walk, but really the magic of our state because we have such a fantastic state."
The annual Labor Day event crosses the five-mile Mackinac Bridge that links the state's lower and upper peninsulas.
