HOUGHTON -- It's taken about eight weeks and more than 500 hours, but the Keweenaw Brewing Company's massive mural of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge is basically complete.

Artist Randy Wakeham worked on some finishing touches Wednesday, portraits of owners Dick Gray and Paul Boissevain and brewer Tom Duex.

The 50 by 22 foot masterpiece also includes mini murals of the bridge in its previous forms.

The mural gives KBC patrons a new view that truly rivals its inspiration.

"A lot of tourists who've come here yearly, their entire lives have stopped in and say it's great," said Margi Boissevain   "We love it, and there's a lot of interest in seeing other mural projects in the area."

The artists have signed their names and say they'll probably add in the date before they put down their brushes and seal the work with a clear top coat.
