Accused of violating the Whistle Blower Act
MARQUETTE -- We have a follow-up on what's been happening at the Women's Center in Marquette.
In June, two former and two current employees of the Women's Center had filed a lawsuit against the non-profit organization, citing a violation of the state's Whistle Blower Act.
The Women's Center denied all of the allegations.
According to the Women's Center attorney, Suzanne Larson, a scheduling conference Tuesday has been continued until November. Larson states that both sides have agreed to sit down to a mediation session in late October to try and settle the matter out of court. If that fails, then the scheduling conference will continue in November.
She went on the confirm that the Women's Center has been striving to keep their costs down. To do that, they have eliminated the position of executive director and shifted those duties to other people.
Larson also said that several of the volunteer board members have resigned, but no reason was given.
