Carl Levin makes a stop in Houghton

HOUGHTON -- Senator Carl Levin visited the Copper Country today, meeting with local business owners and asking for their help to pass a proposed bill.

Levin told the crowd about a new small business bill that would facilitate a flow of credit to companies who've been denied during the recession due to a lack of collateral.  He said the bill is favored by all Democrats and every major business organization but has been held up by the Republican party, who unanimously voted against the proposed legislation.

"They should contact their national organizations and urge them to work harder to get some Republican votes," said Senator Levin.  "The national organizations already strongly support this bill, but we need to increase efforts if we're going to get a few Republican votes."

Levin listened to local concerns that ranged from Asian carp invasion prevention to farmer's market funding.

He said it's critically important for him to hear from his constituents.
