Regulations may change
ESCANABA -- The way that deer hunting is regulated in Michigan may soon be changing.
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission is considering creating regional deer advisory teams made up of hunting groups from across the state. There will be three in the state of Michigan, one in the Upper Peninsula, one in the northern lower peninsula, and one in the southern lower peninsula.
The teams will report to the NRC on hunting conditions in their area.
"The idea is to get hunters and others together in a group to make recommendations to the wildlife division so that we tune our policies, our regulation, our management so that they are in sync with local conditions," said Chief of DNRE Wildlife Division Russ Mason. "One size does not fit all in the state of Michigan, so this is a great opportunity."
An official announcement regarding the advisory teams is expected at the NRC's September meeting. Applications will be available following that announcement.
