MANISTIQUE -- The case of the Schoolcraft County Jail inmate charged with trying to escape last month is headed to a higher court.

Earlier this week, 31-year-old Menzel Hill waived his preliminary examination in Schoolcraft County District Court, bounding over his case to circuit court.

Hill is charged with attempted escape while awaiting trial for a felony and conspiracy to escape while awaiting trial for a felony.  He'll also be charged as a habitual offender, fourth offense, which ups his maximum sentence time.

Hill could be headed to prison for up to 15 years if convicted of escape charges.

His arraignment in circuit court is scheduled for August 19.
