The $168,000 Justice Assistance Grant will allow the department to upgrade its records management system

IRON COUNTY -- A federal grant is giving the Iron County Sheriff's Department a chance to upgrade its technology.

The $168,000 Justice Assistance Grant will allow the department to upgrade its records management system.

The move is expected to make the Sheriff's Department more efficient and allow an easier process to share information with other departments.  It's a move that was much needed, says Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano.

"Many of the people that come through our jail are going to commit crimes again," says Valesan.  "So knowing that, being able to access information on people who have committed similar type crimes in the past, it's helpful in investigating."

Through other grants, the Sheriff's Department will also upgrade its laptops and create a wireless network.
