Many come out to get a taste
MARQUETTE -- Who knew blue could taste so good? Blueberry pie that is.
This was the first year for the homemade blueberry pie contest at the Blueberry Festival in Marquette.
The theme was "Celebrating What is Locally Grown" and turning it into something everyone can eat.
Twelve pies were entered in the contest. They were judged on flavor, appearance, consistency, crust, and filling.
People of all ages came to taste the pies.
"People really came out. I think we have a lot more people tasting than actually brought pies, but that's good because maybe next year we'll have more," said contest coordinator, Sarah Monte.
Prizes were donated by vendors from the Marquette Farmers Marquette.
Organizers hope to expand the contest next year by making it a Michigan berry pie contest.
