SKANDIA -- Upper Michigan became the home to another historical marker Friday afternoon.

The Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Skandia now holds a historical marker in honor of William Bakewell.  Bakewell spent his teenage years working at a lumber camp in the U.P. before becoming the only American crew member of the "Endurance," which went on an Antarctic expedition.

Bakewell's daughter and three granddaughters have spent nearly 14 years trying to get the historical marker in place.  All four of them were on hand for Friday's ceremony.
