Charged in a criminal complaint with mailing a letter written by his father to a U.S. representative
BAY CITY (AP) -- A criminal case against a Colorado man accused of conspiring to threaten a Michigan congressman may be resolved without an indictment.
A federal prosecutor and the lawyer for David Hesch are asking a judge to waive the deadline to seek an indictment. In a court filing Thursday, they asked for 45 days to finish their negotiations.
On June 4, Hesch, of Loveland, Colo., was charged in a criminal complaint with mailing a letter written by his father to U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak. Investigators say the letter threatened the Democrat because of his vote in favor of a health care law.
Hesch's father, Russell Hesch of West Branch, Mich., has been indicted on four charges.
Messages seeking comment were left with the prosecutor and David Hesch's lawyer.
