Ishpeming residents learn family history

ISHPEMING -- Medical advice from family history and a look back at a lineage might be at the fingertips for many in the U.P.

Thursday in Ishpeming, about 30 people were at the Marquette County Historical Society's Celebrating Ishpeming's Ethnicity Program for tips about using the library's records system.

Historical Society Librarian, Rosemary Michelin, says information on the Internet can speed up the detective work in a geneology search, but it's best to go back to the relatives' lives to find their history.

"Searching for your family is like the search of a lifetime.  You can take it back as far as you want," said Michelin.

Ishpeming was actually known as a "melting pot of cultures" at one time, with more than 70 percent of the population from other countries.
