FLINT, MI (AP) -- Authorities say an early morning fire that swept through an apartment building in Flint Township has killed one person.

Fire Chief John Ringwelski tells WJRT-TV the unidentified victim died in the blaze that began about 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Sunridge apartment building in Genesee County, about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

Witnesses tell WEYI-TV that several people jumped from the building to safety.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

No further details have been released.  An investigation is ongoing.

Messages seeking further information were left Tuesday with police and fire officials.
