Holding a hazardous waste drop-off once a month through October
MARQUETTE -- There are certain items that just shouldn't be thrown away with your regular garbage. But the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority is hoping to make it easier to dispose of these items by offering hazardous waste collections.
Sunday, residents could drop off items such as oil-based paints, batteries, aerosol cans, and antifreeze. The items would be sorted and disposed of properly.
And it's very important that residents make sure to always get rid of these items the right way.
"It keeps it out of the environment," says hazardous waste technician Josh Wales. "A lot of this stuff is really bad for groundwater; any kind of stuff that you're just going to throw in the woods is a terrible thing, and we just like to clean the stuff up like the mercury. People can bring in any type of thermometers, thermostats, stuff like that containing mercury, and we dispose of that stuff for them."
The Solid Waste Authority will be holding a hazardous waste drop-off once a month through October.
