It will be a Hampton Inn
MARQUETTE -- Construction has begun on a Hampton Inn hotel at Founder's Landing in Marquette.
Project leaders held a ground-breaking ceremony at the site, Friday. The hotel is slated to open summer 2011.
Many people involved say this day has been a long time coming and a great start to the next stage of making the idea a reality.
It's been about two years since the start of discussions to build this kind of structure.
"Actually getting started on the site work here, been a long time working towards this day great to get it started," said Barry Polzin, Project Architect.
"We obviously hope it will become a destination point for the city of Marquette; downtown is very busy and vibrant because of businesses invested downtown. We hope we'll be a part of it with our investments on the waterfront," said Tim Larson, partner in hotel development.
Contractors will now move forward in the excavation process to install sewers, utilities, and then begin work on the foundation, which is expected to take six weeks.
