The tax money will be used to help fund the $900 billion health care overhaul
MARQUETTE -- Starting July 1, ten minutes in a tanning bed will cost you more money. That's because the new 10 percent tanning tax goes into effect.
The tax money will be used to help fund the $900 billion health care overhaul.
According Kurt Hewitt, owner of Utopia Tanning in Marquette, salons have high overhead because of bed maintenance and electricity. So Utopia Tanning, like most businesses, will have to increase tanning package prices.
They will only be increasing his four to six percent depending on the package.
Hewitt says absorbing some of the cost will keep prices close to what they were.
