Riding in great grandfather's Model T
MARQUETTE -- If you've been to the 4th of July parade in Marquette, you might have noticed the mayor in a vintage car, wearing a smile.
But this year, Marquette City Mayor John Kivela has an extra reason to look forward to the parade. That's because he'll be riding in a 1921 Model T.
It was purchased by Joe Drobny of Marquette in 1956 from Kivela's great grandfather, Frank Kivela, who bought the car new and drove it for years before storing it in his barn.
Drobney spent over 50 years returning the car to its original glory.
"I thought that this may be able to happen, and I was excited when I found--actually just two days ago--that I was going to be riding in it. It's great! I've seen the car, but I've never been in it; I've never really even touched it," said the mayor.
You can check out the Model T this Saturday at the parade which starts at 2 p.m. on McClellan Avenue and will make its way down Washington Street ending on Third Street at Baraga Avenue.
